We are the tech company behind the media and sporting moments that matter. Over four decades, Deltatre has grown to employ more than 1,000 experts worldwide. We're trusted by the biggest broadcasters, telcos, media companies, sport governing bodies, leagues, and federations. Our products, innovation, dependability, and people continue to redefine how the value of live and on-demand sport, film, TV, and news content is maximized across streaming, digital, data, graphics, officiating, and through marketplace strategy and growth services.
This role sits within the Vesper team at Deltatre — the platform powering live and on-demand streaming for some of the world's most recognised media brands. As Lead Engineer, you will own the technical design and delivery of features within an existing event-driven platform, leading a full-stack team of frontend and backend engineers. This is a role at the intersection of hands-on engineering and technical leadership. You will set technical direction for your team's work, make sound architectural decisions, communicate confidently with clients and stakeholders, and create the conditions in which engineers do their best work. Your background can lean frontend or backend — what matters is that you think architecturally across the full stack, have a strong grasp of event-driven systems, and know how to bring a team with you. What You'll Do - Own end-to-end technical design and delivery of features within the Vesper platform — from architecture through to production
- Lead a full-stack team of frontend and backend engineers, providing technical direction, clarity and day-to-day support
- Drive architectural decisions on event-driven systems, APIs and client-side integrations, ensuring solutions are scalable, maintainable and fit for purpose
- Act as the technical point of contact in client and stakeholder conversations, translating requirements into clear engineering direction
- Review code and design proposals, raising standards and actively sharing knowledge across the team
- Identify and proactively manage technical risk, debt and delivery blockers
- Collaborate with QA, product and other engineering leads to coordinate cross-team delivery
- Stay current with platform evolution and bring informed opinions on tooling, patterns and engineering practice
You make your team better — technically and in terms of how they work together. You hold a high bar without creating friction. You can have a productive technical conversation with a client in the morning and be deep in a system design review in the afternoon. You see the whole picture without losing the detail. Required: - Strong engineering background in either frontend (TypeScript, React, React Native) or backend (Java 11+) — with the credibility to engage meaningfully across both
- Solid understanding of event-driven architecture — designing and reasoning about systems built on async messaging, queues and streams (SQS, Kinesis, Kafka or similar)
- Proven experience leading or mentoring engineers in a team delivery context
- Track record of owning technical design end-to-end on complex features or system components
- Comfortable engaging with clients and stakeholders — explaining technical decisions, managing expectations and building trust
- Experience on AWS-hosted platforms and the infrastructure patterns that underpin them
- Strong grasp of API design and the contracts between services and clients
- Solid automated testing mindset, with the ability to define quality standards across a team
Valued: - Hands-on experience across both frontend and backend delivery within a single platform
- Familiarity with connected TV or multi-platform streaming development (React Native, Tizen, webOS, tvOS, Android TV)
- Experience with relational databases in production systems
- Infrastructure as code
- Background in streaming, media or broadcast technology
- Experience on client-facing or strategic account engagements
Who Thrives Here We are looking for people who bring rigour and curiosity to their work in equal measure. You take quality seriously — not as a constraint, but as a standard you set for yourself. You communicate clearly, flag issues early, and treat your colleagues' time and context with respect. You are honest about what you know and what you are still learning. This is an environment that rewards initiative. If you are looking for genuinely interesting engineering problems on a technically demanding platform, with colleagues who hold themselves to a high standard, this may be exactly right.
